Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos and commonly develops in the pleura, with a small number of tumors forming initially in the abdomen. Every year, a few thousand people are diagnosed with this disease. It is usually fatal, and caused by exposure to asbestos years prior.
